Wilton Tavious Bailey of Clayton died Monday morning in Johnston Memorial Hospital following several months of declining health. He was 62 years of age.
Born in Johnston County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Lula Price Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
The funeral was scheduled for 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton with the Rev. Richard Boger officiating and burial following in Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton.
Selected as pallbearers were Wayne Lee Jr., Hunter Penell, Glenn Hill, Edward Hill, Kermit Bissette, and Floyd Price.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mable Poole Bailey; three stepsons, Jerry T. Dalton of Clayton, Donald G. Dalton of Raleigh, and Cleveland Callahan Dalton of Suquamish, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Betty Edmundson of Wilson; three sisters, Mrs. Miggie Hill and Mrs. Lula Johnson of Clayton and Mrs. Helen Pilkington of Raleigh; five brothers, Thurman and Chester Bailey of Wilson, Bill and Graham Bailey of Clayton, and Tom Bailey of Florida; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Note: The above obituary for Wilton contains several errors. Jerry Dalton is not a stepson, he is Betty Callahan Edmundson's child. Donald and Cleveland are given the last name of Dalton in error; it should read "Callahan".
