His funeral service will be 11:00 am on Monday, April 25, 2011 at First Baptist Church of High Shoals with Rev. Dickie Whitener, Rev. Charles Ingle, and Rev. Greg Hager officiating. Burial will follow in High Shoals Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 am on Monday prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Whitener was born March 26, 1938 in Gaston County to the late Eugene and Katherine Jamison Whitener.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Hester Whitener, and a son, David Whitener.
Mr. Whitener worked in textiles.
He is survived by a brother, Rev. Dickie Whitener of Bessemer City; two sisters, Pat Yarboro of High Shoals and Jane Taylor of Taylorsville; and one grandson, Justin Whitener.
