Billie J Albert was born March 1, 1929 to William and Zella Burger Albert, the youngest of eight children. He passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Resident Care Center, Beloit, KS. Born and raised on a farm southwest of Glen Elder, Billie attended Walnut Creek Grade School and graduated from Glen Elder High School. He served in the United States Army for two years from 1951-1952 achieving the rank of Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Billie married Florence Reed in Beloit on May 17, 1953. They made their home on a farm southwest of Glen Elder where Billie farmed and raised hogs and cattle. Four children were born to this union: Rodney, Monte, Vicki and Sandee. Billie served on the Farmway Coop Board of Directors for twenty-seven years and also served on the Walnut Creek Township Board. He was a member of American Legion Post 43 and served as Commander. He was a life member of the VFW and an active member of the Glen Elder United Methodist Church and Glen Elder Senior Center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and family camping trips. Billie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lawrence, Nova, Francis, Quentin and Calvin and sister Barbara Beck. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Florence; sons Rodney and Ann Albert, Beloit; Monte and Jolene Albert, Cawker City; daughters Vicki and Larry Hayden, Beloit and Sandee and Jerry Geisler, Tipton; four grandchildren Kelsey and Tim Adams, Beloit; Kari Albert, Manhattan; Arin and Ami Albert, Beloit; two great-grandchildren: Colby Albert and Kemper Adams; sister Bonnie Vetter, Beloit. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Glen Elder United Methodist Church with Ryan Lynch presiding. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00-7:30 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit. Memorials may be given to the Glen Elder United Methodist Church or American Legion Post 143.
