Hardin- William Alfred Blackston, 86, of Mozier, a retired commercial fisherman, died Sunday at 11:20 a.m., in Jersey Community Hospital.
He was born in Calhoun County, Sept. 27, 1875, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs.Francis Blackston.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Homer Booth, Godfrey; Mrs. James Mesecher, Marina, Calif., Mrs. George Clowers, Toppenish, Wash., Mrs. Ralph Hobbs, Pleasant Hill; Mrs. Orville Wilson and Mrs. Delbert Bland, Jerseyville; two sons, George and James Blackston, Wood River; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Plank and Mrs. Josie Plank, St. Louis; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren. His wife, the former Martha Tolbert, died in 1944.
Mr. Blackston was a member of Mozier Christian Church and funeral rites Tuesday at 2 p.m., will be conducted in the church by the Rev. Robert Gulledge. Burial will be in Fox Creek Cemetery.
The body is at the C.C. Hanks Funeral Home, Kampsville, where friends may call after 3 p.m., today.
