Ida Moffett was in an accident at the Dallas State Fair and she died at Baylor Hospital shortly after. She fell from a Hobby Horse ride on a merry-go-round sustaining internal injuries and a fracture at the base of the skull according to physicians who attended her. She was riding the merry-go-round with her two grandsons, Jamie Cumby, 4, and John Hammond Cumby age 2 when Jamie lost his balance and began falling. Ida clutched at him and both the child and his grandmother fell to the ground. The boy was not injured. She was fifty years old. She is survived by two sons, Connor and F M. Hammond III and her husband F. M Hammond II, two daughters Mrs. J. M. Cumby of 402 Montreal Avenue and Mrs Frank Sam Slay of Corsicana. Her two daughters were with her at the time of the accident. She had been staying with Mr. Cumby for a few days and they were enjoying a day at the fair. The whole family was with her at the end. Mrs Hammond was a relative of Mrs W. O. Connor [Lula Mays] who is an Aunt, and the family is well known in the Dallas area.
