GULFPORT -- Roy Anderson Jr., who founded the Roy Anderson Corporation in 1955, died last night, his son said.
Arrangements are pending with Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, director Bubba Lang said today.
Anderson, 82, died at his Gulfport home about 10 p.m., Lang said.
According to the company website, Anderson built his company on honesty and integrity, just like his father used when he started his real estate business in 1925.
Anderson was a Georgia Tech graduate of 1951 and also served as a pilot in the Korean War.
He opened his construction company after returning home.
He served as president of the associated General contractors/Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter and director of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce.
He also received the Distinguished American Award from the National Football Hall of Fame.
Anderson's son, Roy Anderson III, is president and chief executive officer of the company, which is licensed in 13 states.
