Irvin Louis Sonnier, 84, of Alexandria, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011 in Rapides Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Sonnier was born on April 30, 1926 in Morse, LA to Domenique and Odile LeBlanc Sonnier. He graduated from Morse High School in 1943, joined the US Navy Reserve Air Corp in 1944 and discharged in 1946. Mr. Sonnier went to SLL (ULL) and received a degree in Agriculture Engineering in 1949. He worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service and held several positions during his 37 years of service. After retiring in 1986 he pursued a woodworking hobby. He enjoyed playing bridge.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Doris Prater Sonnier.
Irvin Sonnier is survived by his stepson and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Gail Scott; one grandson, John Scott; two sisters, Genevieve Talbot and Lena Dell Richard and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the building fund at Horseshoe Drive United Methodist Church, 1600 Horseshoe Drive, Alexandria, LA 71301.
