James V. Evans VIRGINIA BEACH - James Vreland "Jimmy" Evans, 90, passed away Jan. 21, 2010 in Daytona, Fla. He was born June 28, 1919 in Cashville, Va., the son of the late Noah Thomas and Cordelia Crockett Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle; daughter, Cathy Walters; four brothers; and four sisters. Jimmy retired with 21 years of service to his country as a staff sergeant in the United States Army, fighting in the Pacific campaigns during World War II. He enjoyed a second career with Norfolk Redevelopment, retiring after 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Pat Evans and stepchildren, Laura Drexler, Melissa Grennan, Billy Flicken and Tracey Payne. Others left to cherish his memory are three granddaughters, Michelle Walters, Cindy Walters and Christina Koschel; three great-grandchildren, Christian Koschel, Kailyn Koschel and Blair Walters; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Norfolk. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk.
