LONG-TIME RESIDENT Mrs. Laura Brown Claimed By Death Mrs. Laura McCachern 77, an invalid since March 15, 1951, died at 9 o'clock this morning at her home, 513 Pine street extension.
Mrs. Brown lived in Kannapolis 25 years and was active in the West Point Baptist Church. During the construction of the congregation's educational place, the Sunday School classes met in her home.
She was born in the Rocky River section of Cabarrus County September 13, 1876, daughter of the late Roland McCachern and Mrs. Elizabeth Starnes McCachern. In childhood she attended Oakland Day School, a Presbyterian institution in the Rocky River community. This was one the first schools of its kind in the state. She also attended White Hall Seminary, and was a student there when it burned in 1890. White Hall was succeeded by the Sunderland Hall School, another Presbyterian institution, in 1895.

She was married twice, first to Jacob A. Barnhardt of Concord. Mr. Barnhardt died November 16, 1913. On May 25, 1917 she was married to Samuel Roy Brown at Concord, and the couple moved to Kannapolis shortly afterward.

Surviving Mrs. Brown are a daughter by her second marriage, Mrs. James U. Fake, of North Kannapolis; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Clyde Wilson of Charlotte; three brothers, James G. McCachern and George McCachern of Concord, Clarence McCachern of Concord and Martinburg, W. Va.
