James served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and Australian Campaigns. He served as a cook in the service and was assigned to be General Douglas McArthur's personal cook. He was present on the U.S.S. Missouri during the Japanese surrender signing, and was with General McArthur when he returned to the Philippine Islands.
Following his discharge, he returned to San Francisco, and was employed as a chef for many years. In 1987, he retired and moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be with his family.
James was a member of the First United Methodist Church and The Degree of Honor.
Grateful for having shared his life are his brother, Rudolph Rara, Loago, Philippines; his cousin Deloris Pascual, Sioux Falls, SD; and a speial friend, Avenelle Alguire, Sioux Falls, SD.
