U.S. Congressman. Born in Munfordville, Kentucky, during the Philippine Insurrection and the Boxer Uprising in China, he served as a Sergeant in Troop F, 3rd Cavalry, US Army. After his discharge from the US Army, he was employed as a railroad engineer with the Isthmian Canal Commission, Panama Canal Zone, (1904-10). Returning to Kentucky, he engaged in banking and agricultural pursuits. He was a member of the board of trustees of Munfordville, (1910-25), assisted in organizing the Burley Tobacco Growers Association, served as director (1922-41) and was a member of the Kentucky Mammoth Cave National Park Commission, (1922-28). In 1929, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-first Congress, serving until 1931. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was a field agent for the Federal Farm Board, Washington, D.C., (1931- 32), agent of the Kentucky Blue Grass Cooperative Association (1933-34) and treasurer of Hart County Kentucky, (1934-35). He served as a member of the Kentucky State Agricultural Adjustment Administration Committee from 1939, until his death at age 60 in Louisville, Kentucky.
