Pfc. Burl B. Royer, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Royer, Rt. 6, McAlester. Attended Allen High School. Entered Army in 1942. Trained at Camp Barkeley, TX, MO, AZ and TN. Served in Europe. Awarded Expert Inf. Badge, Purple Heart, OLC, Victory, EAME Ribbons, Combat Inf. Badge, GCM and AT Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars. Woun ded in France and Germany in 1944. Discharged in 1945.

Brother Travis E. Royer was killed in action in Ireland on May 17, 1944.

SON's obit: Thomas "Tommy" Leon Royer, 59, of Sedalia, Mo., died Friday, August 1, 2014, at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo.

Memorial services were today at First United Methodist Church Celebration Center in Sedalia with Pastor Jim Downing officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel of Sedalia.

Born Aug. 9, 1954, in McAlester, he was the son of Burl B. Royer and W. Wynema Joplin.

In May 2002, he was united in marriage to Judy Points (Collins), who survives of Sedalia.

He enjoyed dirt track races and Nascar.

He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He was a T-38 mechanic at Whiteman Air Force Base.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Celebration Center, of Sedalia.

Survivors include wife, Judy Points (Collins), Sedalia; three children, Amanda Burton and Joey, Michigan City, Miss., and T.J. Royer, Bell Buckle, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Angela Kaiser, Sedalia; four grandchildren, Will and Gray Burton, Jarrett Royer and Shain Kaiser; three sisters, Sharon Smith and Bill, of Wilburton, Karen Powell, of Hartshorne, and Beryl Dean Waggner, of Hartshorne; his mother, W. Wynerna Joplin, of McAlester.

He was preceded in death by his father, Burl B. Royer, and one stepson, Jerry A. Collins Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were T.J. Royer, Kevin Kaiser, Shain Kaiser, Joey Burton and J.W. Renno.

Memorials may be made to Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg in care of Rea Funeral Chapel of Sedalia.
