Born Nov. 4, 1907, in Athens, Ala., son of the late Andrew Jackson and Mary Nolan Abernathy, he owned Abernathy Welding in Dexter before retiring and was of the Baptist belief.
On Oct. 11, 1933, at Newark, Ark., he married Fern McClain who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Gene Abernathy of Mountain Home, Ark., and Bob Abernathy of Dexter; one sister, Audrey Pitts of Kennett; and two grandchildren.
Four brothers and six sisters preceded him in death.
Burial will follow in the Hagy Cemetery
