John Wolfe, one of the oldest and most highly respected men of Ottawa died at his home, 1301 Phelps street at 9:30 o'clock this morning of acute dysentery. The deceased was born in County Kerry, Ireland in 1839 and when quite young he came to this country (with his parents Richard and Mary Foley Wolfe). For years he followed the occupation of farming and by conservativeness and energy accumulated considerable property and wealth. A wife and six children, Arthur of Streator, Mary, John, Alice, Dan, and Nellie survive him. The funeral will occur from St. Patrick's church at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. -Ottawa Free Trader August 16, 1901
