Jay worked for a total of 42 years as a state employee retiring from the former Children's Hospital in Elizabethtown. A 1947 graduate of the former Mount Joy High School, he was a member of the Donegal Fish and Conservation Association. An avid outdoorsman, Jay especially loved to spend time with his sons, fly fishing, hunting, and traveling to Perry and Potter Counties. He enjoyed golf and frequented the Elizabethtown Fitness Club for many years where he enjoyed working out. Known for his love of cats and dogs, Jay was a big Phillies, Eagles, and Penn State fan. Cookouts and family get togethers were favorite times cherished by Jay.
Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late Daniel B. and Evelyn Frey Brubaker.
Jay is survived by three sons, Robert and Sherry Brubaker of Mount Joy, Barry and Kim Brubaker of Dillsburg, and Michael Brubaker of Elizabethtown,; six grandchildren, Robert, Brad, Jessica, Ben, Alyssa, and Summer; seven great grandchildren, Robbie, Reese, Branson, Makayla, Ryan, Kyle, and Austin; two sisters, Alice Rowley and Yvonne and Ken Depoe; and a brother, Douglas and Sandy Brubaker, all of Mount Joy. A brother, Richard Brubaker preceded him in death.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jay's Funeral at the Sheetz Funeral Home, 16 E. Main St., Mount Joy on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 2 pm. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 until 2 pm. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3544 N.
