William Bird, 97, of Westville, died Feb. 14, 1992 at the Westville Nursing Home. Services were held Feb. 17 at the Illinois River Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Glass officiating. Burial followed at the Crittenden Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bob Vann, Sonny Sands, David Sands, William Turtle, Jerry Wheeler and Gary Manning.
Bird was born Jan. 1, 1895 in Indian Territory, the son of Lewis Bird and Betsy Wilson Bird. He was married to Charlotte Hilderbrand in 1933, who preceded him in death in 1987. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one son, Sunday Bird. He was a member of the Illinois River Baptist Church.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Sweeney and Sara Oakball both of Chewey, OK; 4 sons, Johnny Bird of Eucha, OK, Sam Bird, J. D. Bird and J. B. Bird all of Chewey, OK. 33 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren; 15 great great grandchildren; 5 great-great-great grandchildren.
