Prior to the Civil war, Thomas Cook married Margaret Jane Windham in Fairfield, Alabama. They had two children, Mary E. and Thomas H.G. Cook. Margaret Jane died in 1865 and Thomas left Alabama and went back to Texas where he had spent his service as a surgeon in the Confederate Army. There he married Judith Francis Gilliam, daughter of John Woodson Gilliam and Susan M. Venable. They had two sons, Ashbel and Charles Gilliam Cook. Judith died in 1884 and Thomas married her sister Mary Madison Gilliam. Mary died in 1894 and Thomas died twelve years later in 1906. Thomas, Judith Francis, Mary Madison, Mary Elizabeth, Ashbel, and Charles are buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Weimer, Texas.

Margaret Jane (Windham) Cook, daughter of H.G. Windham died November 13, 1865. She was born November 9, 1842 and married 1861 to Thomas C. Cook, son of Major Cook, a farmer born in Connecticut. Thomas was living in Fairfield, Pickens County in 1860.
"Excerpts from History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography" by Thomas McAdory Owen on Pickens County Citizens" states: "Dr. Thomas Chappell Cook was born on Sept. 19, 1836 at Fairfield, Pickens County the son of Major Cook and Mary Wicks Jarvis. He married on September 19, 1860 Miss Margaret Jane Windham in Fairfield. He moved to Texas at the end of the Civil War. Vol. 3, pp. 395 and 396."
"Excerpts from History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography" by Thomas McAdory Owen on Pickens County Citizens" states: "26 September 1860 – Dr. T.C. Cook was married to Miss Margaret Windham, daughter of H.G. Windham, 0n Sept. 16, by Rev Mr. Stone."
The 1870 census shows H.G. Windham, 50, born S.C., living in Fairfield, with wife, Eliza,48, and children, Walter Deale, 18, James Crawford, 16, Laura Jo, 13, Ann Eliza, 10, and with two Cook children, Mary E. Cook, age 10, and Thomas H.G. Cook, age 4.
Soon after 1870 Thomas C. Cook moved his two children to Texas. Mary Elizabeth is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Weimer Texas and Thomas H. is found on the 1930 Census of Hidalgo, Texas. The age of Thomas H.G. Cook indicates that his mother probably died due to complications during childbirth.
Margaret Jane Cook's parents were Hugh G. Windham, (son of John Robert Windham and Ann Crawford) and Elizabeth Ann Deale, (daughter of Alexander Deale and Margaret Lawrence). They were married on January 20, 1842 at the Deale Plantation in Noxubee County, Mississippi. Hugh G. Windham, Elizabeth Ann (Deale) Windham and most of their children are buried in the Hebron Cemetery, Cochrane, Pickens County, Alabama.

Hugh G. Windham married Elizabeth Ann Deal, daughter of Alexander Deal and Margaret Lawrence. Eliza A. Deal was born January 23, 1822 and died January 22, 1921.
The 1850 Census of the Southern District of Pickens County shows: H.G. Windham, 29, Farmer, born South Carolina living with wife Eliza, 27, born Alabama and children, Margaret J., 7, Bailus E., 5, John A., 3. Also living in the same household were Oliver H.P., 21, Student, Rachel A., 17, Student, and Thomas H., 15, Student. All born in Alabama. Oliver, Rachel, and Thomas were children of John Robert Windham and his second wife, Elizabeth McNeil.
The 1860 Census of Fairfield, Pickens County shows: Hugh G. Windham, 39, Farmer, born South Carolina living with wife Eliza A., 38, born Alabama and children, Margaret, 17, John A., 15, Balus E. 12, Walter D., 8, James C., 6, and Laura J. 2. All children born in Alabama
