CONWAY - Mrs. Dorothy R. Betts, 72, of 33 Wildflower Trail, North Conway, passed away on August 9 at the Memorial Hospital. She was born in Lynn, Mass. on Sept. 20, 1927, the daughter of Frank I. and Elsie (Hatch) Childs. She resided in Greenwood, Maine, following her retirement and moved to North Conway a year ago. Mrs. Betts was a member of the Salem Chapter No. 98 Order of the Eastern Star in Salem, Mass. She was an avid reader and donated hundreds of books to local schools. Mrs. Betts was a former member of the board of directors of the Northeast Credit Union. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth as a comptroller. She was predeceased by her husband, John Betts, a son, B. Betts and a son-in-law, Stephen P. Spofford.
Members of the family include a daughter, Barbara A. Spofford of Conway; a son, Robert B. Betts and his wife Theresa I. Betts of Rochester; a daughter-in-law Joy. D. Betts of Cape Neddick, Maine; a brother-in-law, Leland B. Betts of Portsmouth; a sister, Barbara Dee of Salem, Mass. and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Furber and White Funeral Home on North Main Street in North Conway. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Bethel, Maine. Anyone who wishes may make donations in her memory to the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter on Route 302 in Fryeburg, Maine.
