Thomas R. Jungk, 57, of 22779 Fulfs Road, Sterling, Ill., formerly of Dubuque, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Ardel Barta officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the church. Friends also may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls, Ill.
Mr. Jungk was a hydraulics engineer with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Dixon, Ill., for the past 35 years.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1943, in Dubuque, son of Arthur and Mabel (Hark) Jungk.
He attended Loras College and graduated from the University of Iowa. He was a Vietnam War Army veteran and received the Bronze Medal. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sterling, where he was actively involved in Cursillo, taking Holy Communion to the shut-ins and various pro-life activities. He also was active as a volunteer in the PADS homeless shelter and Habitat for Humanities and had served on the Whiteside County Zoning Board. He had a great love for sailing and hiking as well as making bread and gardening.
Surviving are two daughters, Lara Hunter, of Mountain View, Calif., and Sherre Jungk, of Sterling; his former wife, Bev Lepsch, of Dubuque; his mother, Mabel Jungk, of Dubuque; two brothers, Bob (Kaye) Jungk, of Peoria, and John (Molly) Jungk, of LaClair, Iowa; and five sisters, Nancy Gourley, of Dubuque, Joan (Jim) Gizzi, of Glenview, Ill., Barb (Bill) Blasen and Alice (Wally) Weigman, both of Dubuque, and Mary Borges, of Elk Grove, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur; and an infant son, Rick Jungk.
