Henry Fredrick William Lemke was born in Pommerania, Germany on April 14, 1852, being the oldest of a numerous family. He remained there until he was fourteen years of age when he left home to learn a trade, that of cheese and butter maker, remaining at his work until he was obliged to enter military training, then the required of every young man of his country.
On November 5, 1874, Mr. Lemke was married to Miss Albertina Schlawin. Mr. Lemke and family came to this country in 1883, and settled on a farm in Liberty Township, where they lived for seven years. After this they removed to Hayfield where they had purchased a farm and lived on the same for six years. There upon they moved to Garner, where they have resided ever since. Their married life together was a happy one and believed in the simple home lilfe. And contenment was a predominant note in their home.
Eleven children were born to this union. Of these, three died in childhood. Five sons and three daughters along with his wife survive him. They are; Mrs. Wm. Beier, Reinold, Otto, Henry, and William; Mrs. Eric Clark, John, and Mrs. James Lilly.
Mr. Lemke and family came to this country in 1883, and settled on a farm in Liberty Township, where they lived for seven years. After this they moved to Hayfield where they purchased a farm and lived on the same for six years. There upon they came to Garner, where they resided until his death. Interment to be in Concord Cemetery,Garner.
