US Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice in Delaware, Ohio, then moved to Marion, Ohio and opened a legal firm in 1839. In 1855, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving until 1857. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law in Sandusky, Ohio and was a member of the State constitutional convention in 1871. In 1876, he was appointed judge of the Ohio Court of Common Pleas and served until his death at age 69.
