Hollis Allen was born August 2, 1849 to Levi and Roxana (Gear) Allen, the youngest of six children. His siblings were Organia, Sylvester, Chester, George Washington, and Levi Cassius.
Hollis married Sarah Lanpher in Coventry, VT on July 10, 1874 -- two children were born to their union: Andrew Hollis Allen and Cacus Allen. Sarah died April 1, 1876.
Hollis married Sarah Rice in Coventry, VT on January 26, 1881 -- they had 3 children: Walter Barnard, Clarence, and Ada Belle.
Hollis had a little farm near Coventry, VT and worked as a farmer and laborer in the Coventry, VT area. Three of his brothers served in the Civil War (Sylvester, George & Levi Cassius - Levi was killed at the Battle of Wilderness), but Hollis was too young to serve.
Later in his life Hollis suffered a number of strokes and suffered from many health problems -- he finally ended his own life on November 29, 1901.
