Former Palmerite Dies Sunday -
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo for Mrs. Fred Hessel, 71, of Cairo. Burial was in the Cairo cemetery. Mrs. Hessel passed away Sunday, June 28 [sic] at a Grand Island rest home where she had resided for several weeks.

Emilie Hessel was born June 5, 1901 at St. Libory to Herman and Bertha Tuenge Kruse. She attended Zion Lutheran Church School.

On May 4, 1921 she married Fred Hessel at Worms. The couple lived in the Palmer community until 16 years ago when they moved to Cairo.

Survivors include her husband, Fred of Cairo; four brothers, John Kruse of Commerce City, Colo., R. W. and Walter Kruse, both of Grand Island and Martin Kruse of Arlington, Texas, and eight sisters, Mrs. Emma Poeher of Cairo, Mrs. Ida Poehler, Miss Ella Kruse and Mrs. Albert (Freida) Hessel, all of Grand Island, Mrs. Henry (Bertha) Schuett of Chapman, Mrs. Walter (Alma) Baade of Litchfield, Mrs. August (Meta) Japp of Ravenna and Mrs. George (Erna) Tohlman of Pocatello, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Herman.
