MR. EPHRAIM LLOYD "E.L." VOYLES, FORMER MAYOR OF HIRAM, GEORGIA, DIES. Mr.
Ephraim Lloyd "E.L." Voyles, a former mayor of Hiram, Paulding County, Georgia,
and a highly respected citizen, died at his residence in Hiram, Georgia on
Sunday, November 5, 1967. Mr. Voyles had been ill for the past 5 months
preceding his death. Mr. Voyles had been a resident of Pualding County,
Georgia since the year 1917. Mr. Voyles was born on October 2, 1888, in
Haralson County, Georgia and was the son of the late Aaron Voyles and Sarah
(Kitchens) Voyles. Mr. Voyles served as the Mayor for the town of Hiram for
one term from 1952 to 1954. He was a former employee of Seaboard Railways from
1916 to 1948. He had been retired from his employment for about 20 years. He
was a devote Christian and a faithful member of the Poplar Springs Baptist
Church prior to his death. He was active in the community and was a member of
the Bartlett Lodge Number 139 of Hiram, Georgia. Mr. Voyles is survived by:
1) His wife, Mrs. Pearl "Pearlie" (Crabb) Voyles; 2) his son, Tom Voyles of
Birmingham, Alabama; 3) his son, Howell Voyles also of Birmingham; 4) his
son, W. H. Voyles of Dallas, Georgia; 5) his son, Huston Voyles of Smyrna,
Georgia; 6) his son, Lamar Voyles of Powder Springs, Georgia; 7) his daughter,
Mrs. Robert New of Austell, Georgia; 8) his dauther, Mrs. J. Romaine "J.R."
Shipp of Leland, Georgia; 9) his daughter, Mrs. James M. Laird of Hiram,
Georgia. Mr. Voyles was also survived by 25 grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren. Funeral services were held for Mr. Voyles on Tuesday, November
7, 1967, at 3:00 o'clock p.m. at the Popular Springs Baptist Church, the Rev.
James Ottis Crabb and the Rev. C. R. Campbell officiating. Burial and
graveside services were at Popular Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The
grandsons of the deceased served as his pallbearers at the services and
included: David Shipp, Ronnie Garner, Jerry Voyles, Larry Voyles, Gary Voyles
and Charles Laird.


Additional Comments:
Mr. Voyles was formerly married to Mrs. Carrie Creale Voyles, who preceded him
in death. The surviving wife of the deceased, Pearl "Pearlie" (Crabb) Voyles,
was the dauthter of the late William Burton "Tody" Crabb and the late Sarah
Josephine "Josie" (Black) Crabb, both parents of Polk County, Georgia.
