George enlisted for civil war service, Sept. 3, 1862, at Cleveland, OH(Cuyahoga County), as a private in Company E, 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, for a term of 3 years. Occupation: Farmer. He was stabbed to death, possibly in the heart, March 1, 1865 in Wilmington, NC. Nothing was recorded about the incident as to motive or circumstances. He was originally buried in what is now Wilmington National Cemetery in Grave 1970. Cleveland's Woodland Cemetery burial registry shows that he was buried there in Section 28, Lot or Tier 6, Grave 1 N, January 17, 1874. His Veterans Grave Registration Card for Ohio shows that he remains were moved to Lake View cemetery and reinterred May 16, 1883. He is buried in a family plot in the shadow of the John D. Rockefeller monument.
