Charles Wirt Angel was the son of Anderson D. Angel and Margaret E. Mills of Beaver Island Twp., Stokes Co., NC. He was noted living in their household during the 1850 and 1860 Stokes Co., NC Censuses. He moved over to neighboring Rockingham Co., NC. During the Civil War, he was conscripted into CSA service as Private, Co. D 45th Infantry NC Regiment. Record stated he was from Rockingham Co., NC He enlisted August 1863 in Richmond, VA for 3 yrs. by J. S. Dalton. His record showed that he was was admitted to Winder Hospital in Richmond, VA twice, Sept 17, 1863 and October 23, 1863. On May 17, 1864 he was captured by Union forces at Spottsylvania and was a POW at Point Lookout, Maryland Prison Camp. On May 23, 1864, he arrived at Belle Plaines, VA where he joined the US Army on May 24, 1864 and Released for duty.
