Charles Edward Manis

Charles Edward Manis, 74 of Surgoinsville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2011 at Bristol Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Benedict, Virginia Charles had lived in Surgoinsville for 23 years. He was a collector, enjoyed his C B radio and went by "Lonesome George". He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the Masonic Clay Lodge # 386 and a member of LaFollettes Chapel Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Blanche Lawson Manis; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Charles is survived by his wife, Ruth Riner "Rooster" Manis of the home; daughters, Faith, Debbie, Teresa, Edith and Sandra; sons, Michael, Johnny, and Charles; 8 step-children; a tribe of grandchildren; sister, Alma Hurd; brother, Everette Manis; a very special friend, Patsy Lawson; several nieces and nephews.

A Masonic graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at LaFollettes Chapel Church Cemetery with the Masonic Clay Lodge # 386 conducting the rites. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:55 p.m.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Manis family.
