HAYES TOWNSHIP FARMER IS DEAD
John Kopf Succumbs to Pneumonia At Age of 81 Years
Hayes township lost a respected pioneer citizen in the death of John Kopf, who passed away on last Wednesday, May 7th [1924], at the advanced age of 81 years, following a short illness with pneumonia.
Mr. Kopf was born in Germany, January 6, 1843 and came to this country in 1876. After living for a few years at Petoskey, he removed to Charlevoix county in 1882, settling on the present farm near Susan Lake. He was married in Germany and came to this country with five of his children, three others being born in this county. Two of the daughters, Mrs. J. A. Washburn, of Petoskey, and Mrs. W. H. Drehmer, of Charlevoix have since died. Mrs. Kopf, their mother, passed away some 19 years ago. The six surviving children are Mrs. George Frownfelder and Mrs. J. E. Moran of Grand Rapids, John Kopf, of Saginaw and George Kopf of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Anna Martin of Traverse City and Mrs. Andrew Struthers of Hayes township. One brother , George Kopf of Grand Rapids, also survives the deceased. All of the children were present at the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Frownfelder and Mrs. Martin who were deterred from coming by illness.
The funeral was held from the Struthers home in Hayes an [sic] Saturday, May 10th [1924], Rev. C. W. Long officiating. The interment was made at Brookside.
