Marjorie (Langford) Askew, 86, of Magnolia passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Magnolia, Arkansas.

She was born on September 8, 1924 in New Edinburg, Arkansas to the late Joseph Eli and Lila Zora (McCallister) Langford. She was a retired teacher for the Waldo High School where she taught home economics for 38 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she loved her women's circle group. She will always be remembered as "NaNa" by her "Shannie Poo" and "Beeper."

Marjorie enlisted in the Navy on May 18, 1943, at New Edinburg. Her first training for the WAVES was at Hunter College, New York City she also attended the service school at the Naval Hospital, Long Beach, California for training as a hospital corpsman. In September 1944 she was transferred to the Naval Air Station, Livermore, California, for training in X-ray work and worked in the dispensary. Pharmacy Mate Third Class Langford served more than two and a half years with the Navy and was discharged in the fall of 1945.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archia Lewis Askew; two sisters, Linda Lila Langford and Madeline Knight; and a brother, Wardell Langford.

She is survived by her daughter, Amy Griffith and husband Terry; two granddaughters, Shanna and Breanna Griffith all of Magnolia; three brothers, Rex Langford and wife Edalene of Warren, Arkansas, Ted Langford and wife Kitten, Jerry Langford and wife Francis, all of New Edinburg; two sisters, Mary Richardson and Pat Norton and husband Travis, all of Woodlawn, Arkansas; and a sister-in-law, Billie Langford of Hebron Community, Arkansas; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
