Mrs. Thomas J. Bender, 61, 1227 Commercial Street, died at 10 p.m. yesterday at her home after an extended illness of cancer. She had been bedfast four weeks.

Lois B. Patten was bon Feb. 28, 1866, in Barclay Township and lived her entire life in Black Hawk County.

She was married to Thomas J. Bender at Independence. She was a member of the Congregational church.

Surviving are her husband, a son, Leon E. Bender, 1227 Commercial Street, and two grandchildren, Donald and Daryl Bender. Her mother Mrs. Rachel Patten. New Hartford, Ia,: two brothers, Frank E. Patten, Atwood, Kan., and Alva L. Patten. 211 Concrete Avenue, and one sister Mrs. C. B. DeVeny, New Hartford also survive.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home, Rev. Henry Mueller, pastor of First Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood.
