Ralph Lancelot Anderson, age 89, of Rogersville, went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2010 after an extended illness.
He was a lifetime educator. He began his teaching career in 1946 at Clinch High School where he was a teacher, coach and sometimes a bus driver. In 1950 his teaching career sent him to Surgoinsville and then in 1951 back to Clinch High School as the Principal. Later he served as an Instructional Supervisor and in 1961 through 1968 as Principal of Rogersville High School .He was elected as Superintendent of Hawkins County Schools in 1968 and held that office for 12 years. In 1980 he became Principal at Cherokee High School and served until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed a long and successful career with the Hawkins County School System. His legacy is the success of so many of the students in who's lives he made a difference.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and was stationed in Mobile, Alabama where he met and married Faneeda Hall. They were married a few weeks short of 60 years when she passed away in 2005. Ralph was a member of Overton Lodge #5 F&AM, a member of Hasson Chapter #179 Order of the Eastern Star and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post #21. He was a member of Rogersville United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Faneeda Hall Anderson; his son, Ralph L. Anderson, Jr.; his parents, Hugh and Jane Pearson Anderson; sisters, Ruby Anderson, Sarah Anderson Hurd, and Bonnie Anderson Levacy; brothers, John Anderson, Roy Anderson, Amos Anderson, Joe Anderson, Will Anderson, and Richard (Dick) Anderson.
He is survived by two sons, Daffin H. Anderson and wife, Olivia, and John S. Anderson and wife, Molly both of Rogersville; grandchildren, Mary Ann Embleton and husband, John, Ralph L. (Andy) Anderson, III and wife, Kelly all of Atlanta, Georgia, Matthew A. Anderson and wife, Amy of Birmingham, Alabama, Michael E. Anderson of Knoxville, John Jacob Anderson, and Amber A. Anderson of Johnson City; sisters, Lillian A. Yount of Rogersville, and Sydney A. Wallen and husband, Joe of Johnson City; great grandchildren, Jack and Zoe Embleton, Nate and Avery Anderson of Atlanta, and Ava Claire Anderson of Birmingham, Alabama; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3 - 5 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the Rogersville United Methodist Church. Overton Masonic Lodge #5 F & AM will conduct a Masonic Memorial Service at 5 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow with the Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. Following the Memorial Service Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennessee Army National Guard will conduct Military Graveside Services at Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ralph L. Anderson Education Scholarship Fund c/o Cherokee High School, Highway 66 South, Rogersville, TN 37857.
