Philip Bizgia, Cobbler (Shoe maker) shop and home address 518 4 1/2 St. S.W. Washington, D.C. Children 'Sadie' and Henrietta' and Rebecca' are occasionally listed in D.C. City Directories with the last name of "BISCARR", yet still listed at Philip's 518 4 1/2 street SW DC address.

Also listed in census by names: Biggin, Bizjia, Bezgra and Bizzie (transcribers error). When you look closly at cursive 'J' 'G' 'Z' they look similar, depending on the handwriting of the record transcriber. Also, Philip didn't speak English, and had to 'show' the transcriber his LAST NAME, probably by 'writing it himself'! Presumably, his (English) handwriting wasn't totally impressive, and was open to visual interpretation., thus, explaining the many CLOSE variations of the spelling of "BIZGIA".

NOTE: Only ONE OTHER BIZGIA is found in USA: Benjamin Bizgia, Naturalized in Philadelphia, and Children: Irving, Arthur, Sylvia, all living in or near Kings County, N.Y. Presumably, Benjamin is closely related to Philip, possibly brother or cousin.

Up until July 1886, when Ella was born, was living in New York City. prior to 1891 was in Baltimore (per Fannie obit & Becky marriage announcement). Moved to DC after 1891, and lived there until his death in 1925.

1st Child 'Ella' (married to Charles Cohen) was born in New York., and is buried next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery (Virginia). Subsequent children born in MD, then DC.

Another Child 'Maurice/Murice' later changed name to "Meyer Biscarr" then to "Jack Biscarr".

Philip's life is rather illustrious, having been indicted for receiving stolen merchandise, having his store robbed, and being expelled from this country by Woodrow Wilson for being an "Enemy Alien".

Aside from all of this, several of Philip's Daughters were officiated in matrimony by the father of famed "Jazz Singer" Al Jolson, Moshe Yoelson" of the Ohev Shalom Synagogue.
