At the age of 14, Elisha entered the marine service of the colonies, on board a privateer, and served until the close of the Revolutionary War. He married 1 Jun 1788, in Springfield, Windsor, Vermont, to Isabel McElroy, a Scotch lady, and removed to Erie Co., N.Y.. They were the parents of Betsey, Archibald R., James, Nancy and Polly.
