Stephen M. Aldrich, son of Warner M. and Fidelia Aldrich, was born in Thurston, Steuben County, New York, September 8, 1837. He was the seventh of a family of nine children, all of whom preceded him in death. In 1859 he was married to Mary M. Clark at Bath, N.Y., she passing away Dec. 17, 1898. To this union one child, Arthur C. Aldrich, of Beardstown, Ill. was born.
In April 1861, Mr. Aldrich enlisted in Co. E., 141st Regt., New York Infantry, and was promoted to Sergeant Sept. 19, 1862. He was honorably discharged February 16, 1865, on account of a gun shot wound.
Mr. Aldrich with his family moved to Illinois, locating at Wyanet April 15, 1865. In 1871 he was made a Master Mason by Wyanet Lodge, No. 231, A.F. & A.M. In 1882 he moved to Princeton, where he remained until 1886 in which year he moved to Ellis, Kansas. He continued his activity in Masonry and in 1888 was commissioned a Grand Lecturer of the state of Kansas. Mr. Aldrich died on January 20th. He is survived by his son; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
NOTES: After his wife, Mary, passed away, Mr. Aldrich married Martha (Mattie) Ellison in 1899. She was the widow of Dr. Elisha Ellison. After Mattie passed away, Mr. Aldrich married Anna (Annie) Davey. She was the widow of Albert Davey, who passed away in Canada Oct 1900.
