Zelle was born February 5, 1928 in Richmond, Utah to Justin and Berneice Merrill Erickson. She grew up on a farm working with her parents, brothers, Bert and Steve, and sister, Louise.
She attended schools in the Richmond area. She graduated with honors from North Cache High School in 1946 and from Utah State University with a degree in English in 1950. She received her teaching certificate in Utah and California. She taught school in California while her husband attended college at Cal Poly University.
Zelle married Lyle D. Michaelis in the Logan Temple on June 6, 1950. They spent sixty-one loving years together raising their five children and enjoying their twenty-two grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.
She traveled unselfishly and graciously with Lyle as his schooling and occupation took her from Richmond, Utah to California, Colorado, Holladay, Utah, Virginia, and then to Taylorsville, Utah, where she spent the last thirty-seven years together with Lyle.
She served the Lord in many positions as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including full time missions with Lyle to Munich, Germany, Vienna Austria, Zurich, Switzerland, as a host at the Conference Center, and for five years as a Taylorsville First Ward missionary in the apartments. Zelle was a great example to us all and has left loving memories for her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband, Lyle; children: James Lyle (Venice) Michaelis, Jayne (Tom) Mackay, Craig Brent (Cheryl) Michaelis, Garth Wayne (Beth) Michaelis, Karl William (Tammera) Michaelis; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren. Her parents and brother, Steve Erickson, preceded her in death.
