John James Robertson was a carpenter. He was the son of Joseph R. Robertson. He was born in Amelia County, Virginia about 1818. He married Harriett E. Cosby, daughter of Edwin Henry Cosby and Elizabeth Seay Cosby, in April 1840 in Amelia County, Va. His brother, Albert G. Robertson is a listed as a marriage witness. He sold his plantation in Amelia County in 1864 and moved to Richmond.
