He graduated from Overbrook High School in 1938.
Chet served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 302 Repair Squadron in World War II. He returned following the war and farmed on his families farm from 1946 until 1966. He retired from U.S.D. 501 maintenance in 1981. He retired to his home in Silver Lake in 1993 and had lived at Atria Hearthstone the past several months. He was a member of the Anderson-Raible Legion Post #0239 of Overbrook over 60 years and the Modern Woodmen of America.
Chester was married to Eleanor Mae Higgins on June 13, 1946 in Topeka. Eleanor passed away on Dec. 2, 2009.
Also preceding him in death was his son, Alan D. Dodder on Oct. 16, 1990.
He is survived by his daughter Cheta Mark and her husband Ken of Tonganoxie; a son, Mikel Dodder and his wife Kathy of Silver Lake; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and his sister, Faye M. Cain of Palm Springs, FL.
Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Hope Mausoleum Chapel on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11:00 am. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery. He will lie in state at Davidson Funeral Home from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Shawnee-County Meals on Wheels and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
