Violet attended grade school in the Royal, Nebraska area graduating from Royal High School in 1949. Violet taught country school for one year. On September 6, 1951 she was married to Doyt Eldrid Brandt at the Neligh Courthouse. They farmed in the Royal, Tilden and Osmond areas. One son, Dennis LeRoy Brandt, was born on July 13, 1955.

She also worked three years in the Burley Nursing Home.

In 1970, they moved back to Creighton where she began at the Creighton Hospital as a dishwasher then became one of the cooks at the hospital. She was there until 1996 and was then a cook at the Creighton Care Centre until retiring in 2007.
