Service: Gideon Scott served as a Corporal in Capt. Joseph Slarros' Co. of Col. David Wells' regiment. Enlisted September 23, 1777; discharged October 18, 1777. Served 1 mo., 1 da. On expedition to the Northward, including 6 days (120 miles) home. Also a sergeant in Capt. Elisha Lyman's Co. of Col. Elisha Porter's regiment (Hamp. Co.), engaged July 25, 1779; discharged August 3, 1779. Name also appears on descriptive list of men received to reinforce the Continental Army for a term of 6 months.

Remarks: Gideon Scott and his wife are buried in the old part of the village cemetery at Antwerp, N.Y. On his stone appears "A Soldier of' the Revolution". The date of birth of Gideon Scott on his pension record says he was 21 yrs. on July 7, 1780. The dates on the headstone would make his birth year 1753. He is the only Gideon Scott on the Revolutionary Roll

Gideon Scott (1754 - 1830)

Born in Leverett, Franklin, Massachusetts, USA on Mar 1754 to Absalom Scott and Hannah Hubbard. Gideon married Sarah Howe and had 2 children. He passed away on 4 Mar 1830 in Antwerp, Jefferson, New York, USA.

Stephen Scott was a son of Gideon and Mary Scott, and was born June 4, 1806. in the town of Remsen, Oneida county. New York. He was married in 1835 to Mary Bullock Carpenter, who was born December 4, 1806.

By trade he was a shoemaker, and engaged in farming during most of his active life. He settled in Fairfield, Herkimer comity, whence he removed upon retirement, to Collinsville, Lewis county, where he died May 13, 1888.

On the 1790 census from Columbia Co., New York, it shows that both Sarah's family, who lived in Hudson, Columbia, New York and Gideon Scott who lived alone, was also living in Hudson, Columbia, New York.

It is presumed that they met there, and were married there in about 1789 or 1790.
