Clara Winslow Hendren, 91, of Tyner, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at Britthaven of Edenton. Mrs. Hendren was born June 16, 1919, in the Belvidere Community of Perquimans County, and was the daughter of the late Charlie Thomas Winslow and Mary Elizabeth White Winslow. She was a member of Up River Friends Meeting. Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Hendren; daughters, Phyllis H. Lane and husband, Thomas, of Tyner, and Cindy H. Fodell and husband, Charles, of Raleigh; brother Ernest Melvin Winslow of Elizabeth City; three grandchildren, Tammy L. Grunkemeyer and husband, Joseph, of Lorton, Va., and Matthew H. Fodell and Robert J. Fodell of Raleigh; and great-grandson, Nathan T. Grunkemeyer of Lorton, Va. She was preceded in death by sisters; Olive W. Culipher, Bernice W. Chappell, and Ruth W. Layden and brothers; Arnold W. Winslow, Robert E. Winslow, Chester T. Winslow, Charles Kenneth Winslow, and Clinton Ray Winslow. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation and fellowship today from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and also immediately following the service in the funeral home lobby. Memorial contributions may be made to the Up River Friends Meeting at 523 Up River Rd. Belvidere NC, 27919. Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City is assisting the Hendren family with arrangements.
