Caroline was born in Quebec and immigrated to U.S. with her family as an infant in 1890. Although Social Security Death Index lists her birthday as Jan, 1890, she was probably born in Jan 1889, as stated in 1900 and 1910 U.S. Census. Her sister, Emma was born in Rhode Island either March or August 1890. On this grave marker, Caroline's birth is listed as 1891. That is definitely an error. Her father was Francois Xavier Letu, born in France, Oct. 1849. Her mother was Marie Payer, born in Quebec of French heritage. Caroline was raised on the East coast, living at least briefly in Rhode Island, Mass., New York City, and New Jersey. She married Stephen Auclair in 1908 in New York. Their first child, Yvonne Marie was born the following year. Four more children followed. By the late 1920s, the family had relocated to Flint, Michigan, where Stephen found work in a car factory and Caroline worked for a while as a nurse. Following Stephen's death, she became a live-in nurse and housekeeper until she married a Mr. Wall. However, she was again widowed by late 1950s. She did not apply for a social security number until she was 83 in 1973.
