The Carroll Herald - Wednesday , May 23rd, 1883 - Mrs Lavina S. Lyons, wife of J.W. Lyons, died at her home near this place last Wednesday morning, after a long and painful illness. She was aged 46 years and 3 months.
Mrs Lyons was a native of Ohio and was husband and three sons survive her. One child, the only daughter, died in 1872.
Mrs. Lyons has been an invalid for 15 years, and for the past few weeks had been gradually sinking, and died of exhaustion. The family removed from Greene to this county last October, Mr. Lyons purchased the Prochaska farm south of town.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, and the remains were interred in the cemetery here. A number of the relatives of the deceased lady were present. Mrs. Lyons was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church, an earnest, practical Christian, and her death is a great bereavement to the home-loving family she had always cared for so well.
