PFC US ARMY - WORLD WAR II

Charlotte - S. Kenneth "Ken" Sawyer, 91, went home to be with the Lord Feb 9, 2008. Ken was born May 13, 1916 in Pembroke the fifth of Lewis E. and Lora (Brown) Sawyer's 12 children. Ken served in the Army during World War II in Germany. Ken was a charter member of the Charlotte Volunteer Fire Dept., and a member of the Charlotte Baptist Church where he held many offices including youth group leader, Sunday school teacher and deacon. At one time he also had a ministry at the Washington County Jail. He was a carpenter and with his brothers and crew built over 100 homes and businesses in eastern Washington County.


Ken was predeceased by an infant son Milford Sawyer; brothers, Cecil, Ellis, Alton, Clayton, James and Roy; sisters, Essie Carter and Myrtle James and an infant sister.


He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruth (Brown) Sawyer; daughters Lana Vining and her husband Maynard and Peggy; a grandson Kenneth Vining and his wife Janet; granddaughter Krista Vining and her friend Joey Means; great grandsons Connor and Colton Sherrard; sisters Florence Hatton and Eleanor Baker and her husband Bill; sisters-in-law Rae Sawyer and Thursa Sawyer; a special friend, Pastor Bill Hunt; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.

Burial will be in Round Pond Cem., Charlotte, ME. (Mays Funeral Home)
