Rites will be Sunday for Dr. Darius S. Finton, 80
Findlay, July 21--Dr. Darius Stoker Finton, 81, president of the Findlay board of education, died unexpectedly in his home here Thursday morning from a heart attack while sitting in the living room talking with his wife. He had been in declining health since Dec. 15.
Identified with the Findlay public school system for more than 50 years as a teacher, grade school principal, high school principal and board of education member. Dr. Finton played an important part in the Findlay schools.
He was serving his fifth term on the school board. For years Dr. Finton doubled as faculty manager and high school basketball coach and was at the helm of the Blue and Gold quintet when Findlay won its only state championship in 1912.
He was born in Findlay, June 13, 1863. On Dec. 24, 1889, he was married to Lulu May Smith who survives with one daughter, Mrs. Ruth C. Mack of Delta, and a sister Mrs. Amelia Martin, Sandusky.
He was a lifetime member of the First United Brethren church, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Rev. L. E. Ames, pastor, will officiate, assisted by Dr. R. A. Honn, Pandora teacher, and S. I. Kinley, superintendent of Findlay schools. Burial will be in Maple Grove.
The body is at the Miles funeral home.
