Rebecca Headington, daughter of Nicholas and Ruth (Phillips) Headington was born in Baltimore County, Maryland, October 3, 1821 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Isaac Atkinson, two miles east of Portland, September 6, 1900; aged 78 years, 11 months and 3 days.
She was united in marriage to Christopher Cox in Delaware County, Ohio June 28, 1840, with whom she lived until his death June 9, 1888. She was the mother of nine children, three sons and six daughters, namely: Warner, James W. Sherman and Mariah Cox, Emaline Huey, Ruth Frazee, Lucia Green, Catherine Hoad and Geneva Adkinson, all of whom except Sherman, James W. and Geneva have preceded her to the land of rest. Warner Cox, her oldest son, was a member of Co. B, 34th Reg., Indiana Volunteers, in the rebellion and died at Memphis, Tennessee August 6, 1862.
She leaves two sons, one daughter, two brothers, forty-one grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her departure.
