MCLEANSBORO -- David Viers, 73, died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, in McLeansboro Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, in Hopewell Cemetery near McLeansboro, with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the cemetery.

Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements.

MT. VERNON — David Viers, 73, of McLeansboro, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at McLeansboro Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Nov. 19, 1937, in Hamilton County, to James and Inez (Oldham) Viers. He married Carolyn Omohundro, and she preceded him in death; he later married Laura Smith, and she survives.

Mr. Viers was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 30 years of employment. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a former member of the McLeansboro American Legion post 106.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hopewell Cemetery near McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 106.

Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carolyn; two brothers, Vernon and James Viers; and two sisters, Byrdella Hood and Thelma Clark.

In addition to his wife, Laura Smith, Mr. Viers is survived by a daughter, Carrie Musgrave and husband Bobby of McLeansboro; a grandson, Devin Musgrave; and three sisters, Mrs. Wanda Lee of Vestburg, Mich., Mrs. Peggy Link of McLeansboro and Mrs. Joan Dietz of Mt. Vernon. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
