Robert Junior Allen, age 68, of Marble, NC passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 9, 2011 at his residence.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the son of Vina Marie Allen of Knoxville, TN and the late Sidney James Allen. Robert was a graduate of Andrews High School. He was a high school football and basketball referee for 18 years. Robert worked for several years at Owenby Manufacturing Company and was the Solid Waste Director for Cherokee County Landfill where he had been employed for the past 24 years. (Robert served as a pallbearer at both of my parents' funerals and he will be greatly missed by the entire family.)
Robert was an avid trout fisherman, loved to farm his huge garden and share his harvest, and enjoyed playing cards. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones and being outdoors. Robert was very well known and loved by so many people.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Allen Williams and two brothers, Gary Allen and Rex Allen.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Barry Allen and his wife, Sandi of Sylva, NC; two daughters, Amy Belec and husband, Craig of Andrews, NC and Sarrah Burrell and husband, Rocky of Marble, NC; son-in-law, Tony Williams and wife, Teresa of Murphy, NC; three brothers, Jackie Allen and wife, Marilyn of Atlanta, GA, Billy Ray Allen and wife, Vickie of Hayesville, NC and Larry Allen and wife, Angela of Murphy, NC; one sister, Linda Tatham of Knoxville, TN; six grandchildren, Candice Allen of Hayesville, NC, Blake Allen of Hayesville, NC, Colin Williams of Murphy, NC, Hunter Burrell of Marble, NC and Brad Belec of Andrews, NC. Robert was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his new granddaughter, Trista Burrell. He leaves behind a very special friend, Wanda Payne of Murphy, NC and deeply was loved by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Andrews. Rev. Eddie Hardin and Rev. Derrick Palmer will officiate. Burial will be in the Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Clark, Dexter Lee, Dick Godfrey, Roy Dickey, Allen Williams and Lee Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Mintz, Bryan Blaylock, Todd Hicks, Jason Rowland and James Phillips.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Andrews.
