Well Known Resident and Wife of Local Professional Man Passes Away

Mrs. Matilda Ganong Mount, wife of Dr. Hugh S. Mount, prominent resident of Oregon City, died Thursday morning at 4 o'clock at the family residence at Ninth and Center Streets. Mrs. Mount, while on a trip East a year ago, was taken ill and since that time her health declined.

Mrs. Mount was born in Canemah on the old Ganong place, about one mile south of Oregon City, and was the daughter of the late William C. and Mrs. Edith Bacon Allen Ganong, early Oregon Pioneers, Mr. Ganong having served for years as sheriff of Clackamas County.

Mrs. Mount had continiously made her home in Clackamas County, having attended the Canemah schools and later graduated from the Oregon City High School.

In 1908, she was married to Dr. Hugh S. Mount at the home of her brother, Joseph W. Ganong, in Portland, and since her marriage has made her home in Oregon City.

No woman was better known and held in higher esteem than was Mrs. Mount. She was one of the most active members of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church and for a number of years was president of the King's Daughters of that church and always active in its organization. Mrs. Mount was a member of the building committee when the church ediface was remodeled last year. She was a member of the Pioneer chapter, Order of Eastern Star of this city, for many years.

Mrs. Mount is survived by her husband, Dr. Hugh S. Mount; a son, Hugh Mount, Jr., of this city; two brothers, Joseph W. Ganong, of Portland; Belden Ganong of Jennings Lodge; a niece, Miss Lorna Ganong of Portland; three nephews, Joe and Carl Ganong of Portland; Thornton Howard, of Schnectady, N.Y. Richard Clark Ganong, of Portland, died suddenly November 18, 1925.

The remains are at the family residence, but funeral arrangements will not be made until word is received from Mrs. Mount's nephew, Thornton Howard of Schnectady. Internment will take place in the family lot in Riverview Cemetery, Portland.
