Edith Louise Purvis, age 89, of Leonardville, Kansas and a former resident of Manhattan, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas.

She was born November 12, 1921, at Elwood, Kansas, the daughter of Estell and Mabel (Wilson) Mitchell.

Edith was a homemaker and helped her husband with his ministry in the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Keats-Riley United Methodist Church.

She was married on August 15, 1942, at Wathena, Kansas, to Wilbur Purvis. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1998. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, William, George, twin brothers, Edward and Edwin Mitchell and 3 sisters, Ellen Farrington, Dorothy Boyles and Ruth Hughes.

She is survived by 2 sons, David Purvis of Topeka, Kansas and John Purvis of Abilene, Kansas; 5 daughters, Kathy Weaver of Riley, Kansas, Mary Jones and husband Tom of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, Laura Burnett and husband Steve of Madison, Kansas, Alice Purvis of Osage City, Kansas and Evonne Joyal and husband Jim of Olathe, Kansas; 2 brothers, Frank Mitchell and wife Susan of Atlantic, Iowa and Ralph Mitchell and wife Phyllis of Meriden, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday, April 11, 2011, at the Riley United Methodist Church in Riley, Kansas, with Rev. Bill Eisele officiating. Burial will be held at 3 PM Monday, in the Bellemont Cemetery north of Wathena, Kansas.
