Jessie Early Herd was a son of Marlin/Martin and Mary Ruth (Briggs) Herd. He was born in Tennessee but in 1840 we find his father and family located in Arkansas. He later moves to Missouri. About 1863/1864 we find that Jessie is involved in the CIVIL WAR - He entered as a private and exited as a Corporal. He was with Company I, 46th infantry Missouri.
Jessie married Nancy Jane Welch March 3, 1864 in Ozark co., Missouri. They had children: Mary, William T, Sarah Jane, Samuel, Malinda, Hulda Ann, Benjamin, Ruthie Viola, James Washington, and Magnolia "Maggie".
He was a farmer. Jessie died about the age of 59 years.

This grave was relocated in May 1950 by the Corps Of Engineers from the Old Friend Cemetery in Theodosia, MO when Bulls Shoals Reservoir was constructed and covered cemetery with water. See Corps of Engineers Drawing: Bull Shoals Reservoir Cemetery Relocation Serial 5955 File 139/1691, 1693 and 1700.
